Who are you?

Do you want to know? I can give you a very easy way to know who you are.
Ask yourself the question “what are you interested in?” that is who you are. Your brain is a sponge. It looks like a sponge, it has spongy tissue, it behaves like a sponge. Whatever you soak it in, when you squeeze it, that is what comes out. Whatever you fill the cup with, that is what you can pour out. It is not rocket science. There is nothing to “figure out”. It is that simple.
Now, as simple a truth as that is, the truth is, chances are you don’t believe that. You believe that it’s a mystery. You are vested in the mystery. You love the chase. You “need” it to be complex. Otherwise, then it’s on you. You would do anything to avoid the “blame”. You would do anything to avoid that responsibility. Your life is an elaborate scheme to avoid that singular responsibility. It makes you feel bad and you would do anything not to feel bad, even die. It is however a simple truth. No guru is needed. You are what you put in your brain. Everything that comes out is something that you put in. So if you don’t like what comes out then the answer is simple. Change what goes in.
This is where it gets “hard”. You control what goes in. The interesting thing about your “interests”, what you are interested in, is that you don’t believe that it is something you control. You believe it controls you. Something must interest you for you to be interested in it. You are not interested in the things that actually make you money. Random facts, stories that make you feel, mostly everything is interesting except the things you need to be interested in. Consider this, you surrender your interests to others. Like news, media, and social apps, which they take, convert to microwork and make money on. We have entire industries that make billions of dollars on your interests. They take something you throw away and make money on it because, after all, you aren’t using it. Let’s be fair. You don’t want to control your interests so why shouldn’t they.
It takes 10,000 hours to become world-class, the best of the best, in any skill. Sounds like a BIG number. Ask yourself what did you do with the last 10 years of your life? What are you going to do with the next 10? It is just a choice. Look, the simple fact is you don’t need to be “World Class” at everything. Even a few select skills can make you a millionaire. It only takes 6 months to learn a skill. So what did you do with the last 6 months? What are you going to do with the next 6 months?
Skills pay the bills. Schemes rob you of your dreams. Most people would rather dream and scheme than build a skill. Dreaming is the national pastime. The bigger the dream the better you feel about yourself. The amount of time and effort spent on scheming and dreaming is a waste. It will only end in disappointment. Hasn’t it always? That is never going to change. It won’t be different this time. It’s the same every time. Why? Because even if by a miracle you got what you were scheming for, you couldn’t keep it because you don’t have the skill. You only keep what you earn and that is the result of skills. If you do not believe that then you are mentally ill, you suffer from a delusion, the belief that you can make something true that isn’t. It is that simple. You either get it or you are going to go through a lot of pain and suffering until you get it, until you come to accept the obviousness of the simple truth.
What are you interested in? Decide what you are going to be interested in. This is how you take control of your life. Decide what goes in your brain. Take an interest in your job and you will make more money. Take an interest in your relationships and they will get stronger. Take an interest in your mind and your life will be more fulfilling. You make something interesting. Interesting is not a property things have. Take back control of your interest and do something with it. Instead of watching those Instagram pictures or youtube videos on random interesting things. Take an interest in learning about a skill. Skills pay the bills.
Hope is the opium of poverty. Wishes are for children. You are human. There is nothing you can’t do. You don’t need to hope. You need to take action. Right action equals right result. You either do or do not. What you need to know is how. Choice and commitment are the only two things that determine the outcome. Choice and Commitment are stronger than god. See for yourself. All the stories are really about choice and commitment. Even the scriptures of any religion show that god, by whatever name you call it, is powerless in the face of the choice and commitment of the hero. There are only two infinity stones: choice and commitment. However you need to make sense of your world, there is one truth above all. The secret is there is no secret. Your fate is what you make and what makes you is; choice and commitment. Be the hero of your own life. Don’t hope. Take action. Only action gets results.

The questions that determine who you are, where you are going in life, come down to one thing. What is your choice? How committed are you? Of course, there is another question, Do you know your choice? What are you committed to now? What are you interested in? What are your interests?. Take an unflinching merciless inventory of yourself. Shame and guilt are weaknesses of the spirit. Trash them. Flush the emotional toilet. All that matters in life is what you do next. The future starts NOW!
It takes 6 months of practice to develop a skill. Don’t ask “what skill interest you?” You control your interests. “Take” an interest. Ask what skill do you need? Take an interest in that. Soak your brain in it. It takes 6 months of practice, commit. If you dropped the ball then renew your commitment. Find a way. Look, you are going to spend the next 6 months doing something, anyway. Maybe, this time, make a choice and a commitment instead.
The simple truth is this. Whether you believe it or not makes no difference. Either you get it or you will. The only thing you have control over is how long its going to take. The truth is. You make you. You make you by what you do. You are what you do. You do what you know. You know what you learn. You learn what you are interested in.
And now I hope you realize that you alone decide, what interests you have. So take back your interests.
